From Virtual Worlds to Real-Life Connections

Technology and its capabilities have always fascinated me – I truly love following the growth of the tech world and exploring what new gadgets are out there.
This DACADU project gave me the opportunity to explore one of the most mysterious subjects in the industry – Virtual Reality. I have been curious about it, but mostly saw it as a toy – VR games and something fun to use in your free time. Although this perception of mine didn’t really change much, I understood how engaging and enjoyable it can be. Using VR I got the chance to visit places I’ve never been to such as Bali and Paris, had some fun winning a boxing match with a man I could never defeat in real life and saw some opportunities for learning a language.
I really appreciate being exposed to already known tools such as 360 cameras and also communicating with people that are smarter than me in certain areas. Was amazed by how intelligent other people younger than me can be – learned a lot from them and got some new perspectives.

I had two favourite parts in this project. First was that we got to see Germany since our final project was connected to exploring and perceiving different cities, taking videos of them. I am really thankful that we could merge the responsibilities with pleasure.
The other huge part was that I made good friends – we were coming from the same school but had never met before because they are from Sri Lanka and are studying in different groups. But we had fun, got to know each other and built friendships that will last even after the DACADU project has ended.
One of the most memorable moments was the exploration of the Heidelberg castle – a truly fascinating place. Also the great conversations we had during the breaks and how friendly the professors were. The free time for individual activities was appreciated too!

This was one of my favourite weeks in my life and I have to say a huuuuge thank you for the people who made it happen!
If you are considering joining the DACADU program – don’t hesitate – you won’t regret it! But there is one more thing I would like to mention – the experience is as good as you want it to be. If you are friendly, active and curious, there is a lot this project can offer, but the opposite is true too – can’t expect much joy out of it if you start with a frown on your face.
Be the seed of joy and let the DACADU project help it grow!
